The Ishara Research Series (IRS) is a series dedicated to innovations in teaching and learning. IRS issues are immediately and permanently Open Access without charging any author fees.
Originally covering the specialism of deaf education and sign languages, the scope of the series now includes all types of teaching and learning that are alternatives to mainstream education. It is intended to be a tool for stimulating research and practice in emerging areas, with its scope including themes such as creative methods with learners, learning in settings outside the mainstream, impulses arising from work with special needs learners, and inter- and transdisciplinary aspects of the field.
This series is also designed for publications that are of current relevance but are not easily accommodated within the scope of conventional outlets. This includes work of medium length, i.e. too long for a journal but too short for a conventional monograph, work to be published bilingually, and work in alternative formats intended for practitioners, e.g. involving multimedia, materials collections, or substantial annexes. We particularly encourage authors from the Global South and scholar-practitioner collaborations. The series is also ideal for first-time authors, as we support authors throughout the publishing process, including English language editing support.
The IRS volumes are peer-reviewed publications with ISBN and ISSN numbers. The series is hosted and indexed by oapen.org, an open access publishing service for monographs.
